CLICK HERE TO MAKE YOUR SELECTIONS“A Streamlined Approach To Diagnostic Dilemmas” (4hrs)This class featuring Motor Age Training Instructor Brandon Steckler capitalizes on the technicians’ ability to incorporate basic testing techniques with modern diagnostic tooling, and combine it with available service information to solve seemingly difficult dilemmas. All with ease and efficiency, regardless of the vehicle type. The essence of the class is built around the idea that if adequate service information is present, a thorough understanding of one’s diagnostic tooling (and the tools’ limitations ) as well as an understanding of the physics common to all vehicles system/components, ANYTHING can be diagnosed! “A Logical Approach to Port Injection and GDI Driveability Concerns” (8hrs)Brandon Steckler takes you through a logical approach solving seemingly difficult driveability symptoms.
The course objective is to first, take the novice driveability-tech and offer insight as to how fuel injection strategy functions. After thorough discussion of what critical inputs are necessary and how they contribute to the decision of the proper fuel injector pulse-width, interactive class exercises will begin. Using a vehicle with a MAF fueling strategy , a series of experiments were conducted to create a low-power driveability fault. The faults include:
The scan data will be presented in graphed format , for “action/reaction” comparison , as well as in a format featured only by certain scan tools. The goal of the class is to have the attendees analyze the data and decipher which fault is responsible for the data being viewed at that time.
Attendees will leave with an understanding of fuel injection strategy, fuel feedback control and the ability to use generic scan tool data to make preliminary decisions about diagnostic-direction, right from the driver's seat. After that, the course will transition into an approach to GDI system driveability faults and how they differ from that of port injection. Delivered in an easily-digestible format, the class is designed to be highly interactive and technicians of all skill levels will benefit from it! Back To Top
“Pressure Waveform Acquisition and Analysis, From The Inside-Out” (8hrs)Course objective is to take the pressure-transducer novice to a whole new level. The goal is for someone with lab scope/engine mechanical operation knowledge, to gain the ability to capture pressure waveforms (from the intake manifold/tailpipe and in-cylinder) and be able to use the information to make diagnostic-decisions.
The course will cover transducer functionality with both absolute transducers as well as delta transducers. It will touch on the benefits and characteristics of both types of transducers and how they can be used to gain an edge.
Diagnostic-approach will be carried out using real world examples and actual case studies from my own library. Attendees leave with confidence to invest in the tooling to perform pressure testing and analysis to improve accuracy and efficiency. Back To Top
“It Starts With A Spark - A Comprehensive Guide To Successful Ignition Waveform Acquisition and Analysis” (8hrs) The class will incorporate all aspects of ignition analysis, including:
This testing and analytical technique has been lost over the years with the advent of recent technologies. The point of ignition is not as easily accessible. However, physics will never change, making ignition waveform acquisition and analysis highly applicable and sought after. Application of tools and testing techniques will be demonstrated through case study presentation of different varieties, and the class is designed to be highly interactive with class attendees.
The object of the class is to create an environment for learning that boosts confidence. This will lead to accuracy and efficiency. Students will leave the class with a solid understanding of how ignition systems function in general and what is involved in creating the spark between the plug electrodes. They will gain confidence in the acquisition process to invest in the appropriate tooling and learn how to implement the tools on known-good vehicles. They will leave the class with the knowledge of how to practice and experiment safely while gaining the confidence to incorporate these techniques into their existing diagnostic process, eventually replacing time-consuming techniques with ignition waveform acquisition and analysis. These testing techniques can be applied to any vehicle with spark ignition. Back To Top
